Namaj-e-Janaza of Abdullah-Al-Noman held

The second Namaz-e-Janaza of Bangladesh Nationalist Party – BNP Vice-Chairman, former Minister and valiant Freedom Fighter Abdullah-Al-Noman was held on Tuesday (Feb 25) in front of BNP’s central office in the city’s Naya Paltan. Hundreds of people participated in the Janaza. Earlier, an ambulance carried the body of Noman was kept in front of BNP’s central office. Leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies and different political parties paid tributes by placing floral wreaths on the coffin of Noman, local media reported.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee Members – Nazrul Islam Khan and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Jatiya Party (Kazi Jafar) Chairman Mostafa Jamal Haider, Bangladesh Liberal Democratic Party’s (BLDP) Shahdat Hossain Selim, BNP Vice-Chairmen Shamsuzzaman Dudu and Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon, BNP Chairperson’s Special Assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Abdus Salam, Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Joint Secretary General Habib-Un-Nabi Khan Sohel and Jubo Dal President Abdul Monaeym Munna, among others, took part in the Janaza.

Meanwhile, the first Namaz-e-Janaza of Abdullah-Al-Noman, who passed away in Dhaka on Tuesday (Feb 25) at the age of 79, was held at South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

"Noman suddenly fell ill at his Dhanmondi residence early this morning and he was immediately rushed to Square Hospital, where the on duty doctor declared him dead around 6:00 a.m.," BNP Chairperson's Media Cell Member Shairul Kabir Khan said. 

Noman is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter, grandsons and granddaughters, a host of relatives, friends, admirers, political fellows and well-wishers to mourn his death. 

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir have expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of the veteran politician. Hearing the news of his death, Mirza Fakhrul Islam ALamgir and other senior leaders of BNP rushed to his residence at Dhanmondi. Tributes and condolences are being poured in seeking divine blessings of the veteran politician. 

Noman was scheduled to be the main speaker at the BNP rally in Chattogram North District on Tuesday, which was later postponed due to his death.

Abdullah-Al-Noman, a seasoned politician, was born on May 31, 1945, at the village of Gohira in Raouzan Upazila of Chattogram district. His father was Ahmed Kabir Chowdhury. He served as the Fisheries and Livestock Minister after winning 1991 election from the Chattogram's Kotwali constituency, and later as the Food Minister after his victory in the 2001 election.

Abdullah-Al-Noman began his political journey in early 1960s as a member of Chhatra Union, while protesting against the Hamidur Rahman Education Commission. He served as the General Secretary of Chattogram City Chhatra Union, President of Greater Chattogram, and Central Organizing Secretary of the party.

After his student life, he got involved in labor politics under Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani and served as Vice-President of the East Bengal Labor Federation. 

He later became active in the pro-Bhasani NAP, eventually taking responsibility as its Central Organizing Secretary in 1970. He joined the Liberation War in 1971, and after independence, he continued his involvement in NAP politics. 

In 1981, Noman joined the BNP, founded by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. He was a prominent leader in the party and a significant figure in Chattogram's political arena. He played a crucial role in strengthening BNP's organizational base and had a long and distinguished political career.
