Juve draw again after Retegui saves Atalanta

Juve draw again after Retegui saves Atalanta

Juventus were held yet again as they drew 1-1 at Atalanta in Serie A on Tuesday (Jan 14), with Pierre Kalulu's early second-half goal cancelled out by a late equaliser from Mateo Retegui. The result brings Juve's total number of league draws to 13 from 20 matches so far, keeping them in fifth place with 34 points. Atalanta, also on a three-match run of draws, remain third with 43, four points behind leaders Napoli.

Juventus have continued their unbeaten start to the Serie A campaign but were held to a 13th draw in their opening 20 games by Atalanta.

Pierre Kalulu fired in from a tight angle to put Juve ahead but Atalanta forward Mateo Retegui marked his return from injury with a diving header to equalise with his 13th goal of the season.

It was a third consecutive draw for Atalanta, who are third in the table, level on points with Inter Milan – who have two games in hand – and four points behind leaders Napoli.

Atalanta could have scored more but Ederson had a low shot palmed away by Juve goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio, while Ademola Lookman's effort was cleared off the line by Teun Koopmeiners.

Juve, who are the first side to draw 13 of their first 20 games in a Serie A season since Inter in 2004-05 (W6 D14 L0), are fifth in the table, 13 points off the top.

The most draws in a Serie A season is Mantova's 22 in a 34-game season in 1966-67.

Meanwhile, AC Milan are seventh after coming from behind to beat Como thanks to goals from Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao after Assane Diao had opened the scoring for the home side.
