Country extends lockdown to Apr 14

The government on Sunday declared Apr 12 and 13 as general holidays, aiming to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The Public Administration Ministry issued a notification in this regard on Sunday (Apr 5), local media reported.

Besides, Apr 14, the first day of Bengali New Year, will be added with the holidays.

On Mar 23, the government  declared general holidays from Mar 26 to Apr 4, aiming to prevent the transmission of deadly coronavirus and then extended the holidays until Apr 9.

However, kitchen markets, food shops, pharmacies, hospitals and all emergency services will remain out of the purview of the general holidays.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Police today said that it is not allowing anyone to enter or leave Dhaka, except for emergency services.

In a press release today, police sought cooperation from all for ensuring proper implementation of the health instructions and directives issued by the government to prevent spread of coronavirus.

Police have been working to ensure physical distancing and to keep people at home as per the government directives, the press release said.

"Other than the emergency services, all individual and group movements have been prohibited. We are working to ensure it," the press release said.

Another person died from coronavirus and 18 more people tested positive for the virus  during the last 24 hours, said Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Sunday.

In Bangladesh, death toll from the coronavirus infection is now nine. Eighteen more people were tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours, raising the number of cases to 88, he said in an online briefing.
