Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman on Wednesday (Mar 19) said the lawyers should not work based on political motivations rather they should work for welfare of the people. “Lawyers play a pivotal role in the judiciary system... So, they should prioritize the welfare of the people over political motivations,” he said. Shafiqur Rahman was addressing a discussion titled ‘The importance and Significance of Ramadan’, organized by the Bangladesh Lawyers Council (BLC), prior to an Iftar Mehfil at the Supreme Court Bar Association auditorium in the afternoon. Chaired by Advocate Jasim Uddin Sarkar, the discussion was also addressed by BLC Secretary General Advocate Matiur Rahman Akand, Advocate Moazzam Hossain Helal, Jamaat Dhaka city South Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul, and Advocate Mashiul Alam, local media reported.
Shafiqur Rahman said, “There are two fundamental aspects for human life: one is the court, and the other is healthcare. If both sectors function properly, peace and discipline will prevail, ensuring a well-ordered society.”
He shared his observation saying that both the sectors are in a deplorable condition in the country as justice is in exile, while there are extreme irregularities in the healthcare sector. “If quality education and social justice were ensured, the citizens of the country could have been proud”, he said, adding, education lacks ethical standards in the country, that's why people of the country struggle to get due respect on the global stage.
“Compared to the established educational institutions of the world, the ranking of our institutions is almost nonexistent,” he added.
Commenting on the judicial process, Dr. Shafiqur said, “In Bangladesh, British law is considered as the ‘Mother Law’, but the true ‘Mother Law’ is the law of the Quran. However, no legal system has yet been created to challenge the Islamic laws rather there are laws derived from the Quran.”
He urged all to sincerely work toward building a humane society based on the principles of Quranic laws.
BLC Vice-President Advocate Dr. Mohammad Helal Uddin, Advocate Mohammad Gias Uddin Mithu, Joint Secretaries Advocate Mohammad Yusuf Ali and Advocate Mohammad Abdur Razzak, Assistant Secretary Advocate Mohammad Saifur Rahman and Treasurer Advocate Khondkar Rezaul Karim, among others, addressed the event.
