The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has issued 16 instructions aiming to ensure emergency medical services in government hospitals during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr vacation. The instructions were issued in an office order on Tuesday (Mar 18).
The following instructions have been issued for the management of medical services in hospitals during the Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 holidays:
* The presence of full-time doctors should be ensured by deputing additional doctors in the emergency department, if necessary.
* The emergency department, labor room, emergency OT and lab should be kept open round the clock.
* To ensure adequate manpower and medical services at the workplace, leave can be given to the manpower in phases by coordinating before and after Eid.
* The head of the institution will grant leave by prioritizing uninterrupted emergency medical activities and public interest.
* The Civil Surgeon can coordinate the most essential manpower within his district only during the Eid holiday by informing the Divisional Director.
* The heads of the hospital's internal departments will supervise their departmental activities every day.
* Emergency lab and X-ray services should be kept open round the clock in medical college hospitals, specialized hospitals, district sadar hospitals and upazila health complexes. On-call services of specialist doctors should be kept open at the upazila level.
* Before the beginning of the holiday, adequate medicines, IV fluids, chemical reagents and surgical materials should be stored and immediately supplied. In this case, the storekeeper or the staff responsible for the holiday must stay in their own district and upazila.
* Ambulance service should be kept open round the clock.
* Advance notice should be given to the local administration and law enforcement agencies for the security of the hospital during the holiday.
* Precautions for fire should be taken in all health service institutions during the holiday.
* The head of the institution and the heads of various departments will regularly communicate with the officials and employees providing services during the holidays and will exchange greetings on the day of Eid.
* If the head of the institution takes leave, he or she must assign someone to take responsibility as per the rules and the officer taking responsibility will perform all the responsibilities properly. The name and mobile number of the person given the responsibility must be informed to the higher authorities.
* The head of the institution will supervise the serving of high-quality food to the patients on the day of Eid and will exchange greetings with the patients.
* The outpatient department cannot be closed for more than 72 hours at a time. Based on this, the heads of the institutions will take decisions in their respective institutions.
* All private clinics or hospitals shall keep the emergency and maternity departments open round the clock under registered doctors and necessary first aid and en route treatment shall be ensured before referring any patient.
* Necessary assistance shall be provided to referred-patients in obtaining ambulances.
* The control room of the DGHS shall be informed immediately about any disaster or unexpected accident.
