Chief Adviser of the interim government Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus on Saturday (Mar 1) greeted the countrymen and all Muslims across the world on the eve of the holy month of Ramadan.

In a message, the Chief Adviser said, "On the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, I extend my heartfelt greeting to the countrymen and the Muslim Ummah."

He said soul is purified through self-restraint in this holy month of fasting and restraint. "It is a wonderful opportunity to gain the blessing, nearness and forgiveness of the Almighty Allah," he added.

Muhammad Yunus said fasting plays a unique role in establishing mutual sympathy, harmony and brotherhood among the rich and poor.

Being imbued with the teachings of the holy month of Ramadan, he urged all to avoid all indulgences, jealousy, hatred, disorder and conflict and protect the sanctity of Ramadan by showing self control, patience and restraint in all walks of life.

Along with fasting, Dr. Yunus called upon all to recite the Quran and engage in prayers and worship in this month. "May Almighty Allah grant us the ability to implement the teachings of the holy month of Ramadan in our national life," he said.

The holy month of Ramadan of 1446 Hijri will begin in the country on Sunday (Mar 2) as the new moon was sighted in the sky of Bangladesh Saturday.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee held at the conference room of Islamic Foundation at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka in evening, said a press release.
