Litton Kumer Das and Thisara Perera shine with thier bat, as Dhaka Capitals picked up their second victory in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 with a six-run win over Sylhet Strikers at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram on Monday (Jan 20).
Sylhet did not start the innings well in reply to Dhaka's 196, losing George Munsey and Zakir Hasan at the early stage. However, Rony Talukdar and Aaron Jones (36) stitched together an 80-run stand to keep Sylhet in the match. Rony hit a 44-ball 68, but when both set batters departed, Sylhet needed something special.
With 65 required in four overs, Jaker Ali and Ariful Haque keep the game on. Jaker's 28 off 13 and Ariful's 29 off the same number of deliveries almost saw Sylhet within touching distance of chasing the target.
After Jaker's dismissal, it was left to Ariful and Samiullah Shinwari.
Twenty-three runs were needed off the last over, bowled by Mustafizur Rahman, and 12 came off the first three deliveries. However, on the fourth delivery, Mustafizur's near waist-length full toss saw Ariful unable to pick up the length and he was caught by the bowler himself.
Shinwari, too, was run out next ball with 11 needed off two, and Ruyel Miah hit a boundary to reduce the margin of defeat.
Earlier, Dhaka post 196 for six, steered with Liton's 70 and skipper Thisara's cameo of 37. Litton firmly held the innings with a 42-run partnership with Sabbir Rahman, who scored 24.
In the 14th over, Dhaka were just 101 for three. Litton scored his fifty in 38 deliveries and waited for acceleration.
The innings then went high as Thisara and Litton put up an 81-run stand off just 28 deliveries. Thisara struck 31 off 15, while Liton got 30 off 13.
It meant, 20 runs during that stand came from extras made the difference between the two sides.
