Holy Ashura on Jul 17

The holy Ashura will be observed in the country on Jul 17 as the Muharram moon was not sighted in the sky on Saturday (Jul 6), , said a press release of Islamic Foundation. The month of Muharram of 1446 Hijri will start on Monday (Jul 8). Therefore, the holy Ashura will be celebrated on Jul 17, the release added.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee at Islamic Foundation conference room in Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on Saturday evening.

Additional Secretary for Religious Affairs Ministry Md Awal Hawlader chaired the meeting.
