PM confers Begum Rokeya Padak on five women

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday (Dec 9) conferred the Begum Rokeya Padak-2023 on five women for their outstanding contributions to society, women's education and women empowerment. She distributed the Padak at a program in the city's Osmani Memorial Auditorium, marking the 143rd birth and 91th death anniversary of Begum Rokeya Shakhawat Hossain. The women and children affairs ministry arranged the event to celebrate Begum Rokeya Day 2023 and distribute Begum Rokeya Padak 2023, local media reported.

The Begum Rokeya Padak 2023 awardees are: Khaleda Ekram (posthumous), Dr Halida Hanum Akhter, Karunnesa Ashraf Dina (posthumous), Ranita Bala, and Nishat Majumder.

Each of awardees has got a gold medal, a certificate and a cheque of Tk 4 lac.

State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira, MP, and Secretary Nazma Mobarek, spoke on the occasion.

On behalf of the award winners, Nishat Majumder expressed her feelings on winning the award.
