BOU working to be paperless university: VC

Bangladesh Open University (BOU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Syed Humayun Akhter on Tuesday (Aug 1) said that the BOU authorities are working to make the university paperless one keeping pace with the government activities to build the country as 'Smart Bangladesh' by 2041. "D-Nothi is important for increasing the speed of works, sustainable development, transparency and accountability. BOU is working to establish itself as a paperless university to this end," he said. The BOU VC said these while speaking at the inaugural function of 'Skill development training on use and implementation of D-Nothi' on the university campus in Gazipur, said a press release.

University Grants Commission (UGC) Member Professor Dr Md Sazzad Hossain addressed the function as the chief guest while BOU Pro-VC (administration) Professor Dr Nasim Banu and Treasurer Professor Mostafa Azad Kamal, and UGC's Information Management, Communication and Training (MICT) Division Director Dr Sultan Mahmud Bhuiyan spoke as special guests.

Noting that Bangladesh has taken innovative steps to make the wheels of the country's economy more vibrant by utilizing the benefits of the 4IR, Dr Humayun said, "We have to move forward to improve the quality of education suitable for the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) and build Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's Shonar Bangla".

Professor Sazzad Hossain, in his speech, put emphasize on bringing all the works under digitalization to cope up with the 4IR.

BOU Registrar Dr Md Shafiqul Alam delivered the welcome address while deans of different schools, heads of departments and other teachers and officials were present at the function.

A total of 21 trainees are taking part in the three-day training programme.

Earlier, the BOU VC along with Professor Sazzad Hossain paid homage to the martyrs of Aug 15 carnage by placing a wreath at 'Swadhinata Chirantan Smarak Bhaskarya' on the university campus.
