President pays tribute to Bangabandhu at Tungipara

President Mohammed Sahabuddin on Wednesday (Apr 26) paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing a wreath at the mazar (mausoleum) of the late leader at Tungipara in Gopalganj. After placing the wreath, the President stood in solemn silence for some time. A smartly turned out contingent drawn from the Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force presented the state salute while the bugles played the last post.

Sahabuddin took oath as the 22nd President of Bangladesh on Monday.

Starting from Bangabhaban at 10:13 a.m., the President's motorcade reached Tungipara via Padma Bridge at 12:45 p.m.

President's wife Dr. Rebecca Sultana and son Mohammed Arshad Adnan Roni, other family members and close relatives, secretaries concerned to the President and senior civil and military officials accompanied the President during the visit.

Valiant Freedom Fighter and veteran politician President Sahabuddin offered Fateha and munajat seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu as well as other martyrs of the Aug 15 carnage. The President signed the visitors' book kept on the mazar premises.

Subsequently, another wreath was placed at the mazar on behalf of President's family members, led by Dr Rebecca Sultana.

On his arrival here, the President was welcomed by political leaders, including Colonel (Retd) Faruk Khan, MP, Sheikh Salahuddin Jewel, MP, Sheikh Helal Uddin, MP, and Sheikh Sarhan Naser Tanmoy, MP, and senior officials of the local administration.

Earlier, on his way to Tungipara in the morning, the President made a stopover for a few minutes at the middle of the Padma Bridge, where he joined a photo session with his family members.

The President returned to his Bangabhaban residence at 5.15 p.m.
