BPL: Litton guides Comilla to first win

Comilla Victorians registered their first win in the Bangladesh Premier League, defeating Chattogram Challengers by six wickets in the evening game at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Monday (Jan 16). Comilla reached a modest target of 136 without any hiccup courtesy of a blistering 22-ball 40 from Litton Das, which featured three sixes and four boundaries. Liton took on the Chattogram bowlers right from the start with some delightful strokes, making the rest easy for the holders.

The right-hander was bowled by Mrittunjoy Chowdhury as Chattogram managed to pick a couple of wickets in the middle overs. But, Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan took Comilla over the finishing line. He remained unbeaten on 37 off 35 balls, striking four boundaries, while Jaker Ali added 20 as the defending champions finally grabbed their first points after losing three games on the trot.

On the other hand, Imrul Kayes-led Chattogram conceded third defeat in five matches.

Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Malinda Pushpakumara picked up two wickets while Mrittunjoy and Ziaur Rahman took one wicket each for Chattogram.

Earlier, Chattogram lost opener Usman Khan in the first over before Dutch opener Max O'Dowd and Afif Hossain added some stability with a 43-run stand for the second wicket. But, both Max (24 off 24) and Afif (29 off 21) fell in quick succession after reaching their twenties and Chattogram lost their way. They were struggling on 78 for six inside 14 overs. Skipper Shuvagata Hom then provided the necessary impetus, remaining not out on a 23-ball 37 laced with four boundaries and a six as Chattogram added 53 runs in the last five overs to post a decent total.

Spinners Tanvir Islam, Khusdil Shah and Mosaddek Hossain bagged two wickets each for Comilla.
