Women’s U-19: Mongolia make flying start

Mongolia began their Bangamata Under-19 Women’s International Gold Cup football campaign with a crushing 3-0 win against Tajikistan in their Group A opening match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday (Apr 23).

Captain Undral Tuvshinjargal and midfielder Enkhmargad Enkhbaatar scored one goal each in the first half before defender Delgerzaya Nyamsuren converted a penalty kick in the second half to earn full three points for Mongolia.

Tuvshinjargal gave Mongolia a well deserved lead in the 13th minute when the midfielder headed home a corner by Lora Tom from the right side.

Enkhbaatar made it 2-0 in the 28th minute with a fine solo effort. The midfielder dribbled the ball from midfield before firing home into the top-right corner of the goal-post with her right foot.

Tajikistan got a chance to reduce the gap in the 31st minute but their defender Sayohat Rajabova’s 25-yard straight drive rebounded from the crosspiece.

Nyamsuren put the final nail in Tajikistan’s coffin by converting a penalty in the 69th minute.

Tajik forward Abdulhaieva Nilufar committed a handball inside their box when she tried to avoid a tackle from Enkhbaatar and the Iranian referee Mahnaz Zokaee did not hesitate to award the penalty to Mongolia.

Tajikistan created some chances in the second half, but all of their attempts went in vain.

Mongolia play their next match against Laos on Thursday (Apr 25) while Tajikistan face the same side on Saturday.

United Arab Emirates will take on Kyrgyzstan in their Group B match on Wednesday.

Bangladesh women defeated UAE 2-0 in the opening match of the tournament on Monday.
