DCs must work to provide services to citizens digitally, says Nahid

Advisor to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Nahid Islam said the deputy commissioners (DCs) should work to provide services to citizens digitally. “The use of digital technology in providing services to the citizens also plays an effective role in preventing corruption,” he said while addressing the DC’s Conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka, local media reported.

Nahid, also the Adviser to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, said preventing rumors is a big challenge in this era of free flow of information. A large number of rumors are being spread on sensitive issues, he said.

He said the deputy commissioners must play a responsible role in preventing rumors.

Stressing the importance of preserving the history of the July Uprising, Nahid Islam said that the deputy commissioners should take the initiative to collect and preserve information related to the uprising.

In the future, arrangements will be made to permanently preserve this information in the museum, he added.

Use of information technology should be increased in government offices, he said urging the DCs to work on this issue.

Cabinet Secretary Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid, Posts and Telecommunication Division Secretary Dr. Md. Mushfiqur Rahman, ICT Division Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury and Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farzana, among others, addressed the meeting.
