Nearly 50 lakh voters added to updated list

Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed on Tuesday (Feb 4) said field-level officials have collected data on nearly 50 lakh people eligible to be voters as of Monday (Feb 3). "Field-level officials have collected data on 49,70,388 eligible voters as of Monday during the door-to-door data collection campaign, which began on Jan 20," he said at a press briefing on updating the voter list at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city's Agargaon.

Additionally, Akhtar Ahmed said data on 15.23 lakh deceased voters had been collected, and their names would be removed from the final voter list.

He stated that 1.6 million women have registered this time, and those previously excluded will also be included in the ongoing program.

Registration will continue until Apr 11, he added.

Eligible candidates can register online and through zonal offices, he said, adding, "If no information collector visits a house, the matter will be investigated."
