Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Administrator Md. Anwar Hossain on Saturday (Jan 11) held a meeting with the leaders of the two contesting panels, Sammilita Parishad and Forum, to discuss about the upcoming election of the BGMEA Board of Directors. The meeting took place at the BGMEA complex in the capital's Uttara which was attended by former BGMEA presidents Quazi Moniruzzaman, S.M. Fazlul Haque, Khandaker Rafiqul Islam and Anwar-Ul-Alam Chowdhury Parvez and leaders of both Sammilita Parishad and Forum. Members of BGMEA's Support Committee were also present in the meeting, said a press release.
BGMEA Administrator Md. Anwar Hossain emphasized that the election process is progressing with the full cooperation of all, and assured that the polls will be held as early as possible.
Following the discussions with both panels, it was unanimously decided that the Election Board and election related committees will be formed by the end of January 2025, with the aim of completing the election process by the end of April 2025.
The meeting also discussed various issues affecting the garment industry, including the ongoing energy crisis, banking concerns, and matters related to the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
Those joined the meeting committed to collaborate in advancing the apparel industry further.
