Inward remittances reach $2.2b in Nov

Inward remittances sent home by expatriate Bangladeshis rose 14 percent year-on-year to $2.2 billion in November, according to Bangladesh Bank's latest data. Remittance inflow has been on a rising trend since August this year, easing pressure on the country's foreign exchange reserves.

However, November's inflow was 8.16 percent lower than the previous month. Year-on-year, remittance fell 3.2 percent in July, but increased 39 percent in August, 80 percent in September and 21 percent in October, according to the data of the central bank.

In the July-November period of this fiscal year, remittance earning stood at $11.13 billion, up from $8.80 billion at the same period of the last fiscal year.

The migrant Bangladeshis sent home 26.4 percent higher amount of money in the first five months of this fiscal year compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year.
