Polls to women seats in Feb, upazila in March

Bangladesh Election Commission has a plan to hold polls to women reserved seats of the 12th Jatiyo Sangsad in February and upazila parishads in March next, said EC's additional secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath. He said polls schedule will be announced after getting approval of the commission. He said schedule for polls to women reserved seats is likely to be announced in next week, local media reported.

In the 12th parliamentary elections held on Jan 7, Bangladesh Awami League won 223 seats, independent candidates got 62, Jatiyo Party 11, Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal one, Workers Party one and Kalyan Party one.

Due to death of an independent candidate, voting to Naogaon-2 was not held on that day. Voting in that constituency will be held on Feb 12.
