All students to be vaccinated by January: Education Minister

Education Minister Dipu Moni on Moday (Jan 10) said educational institutions won't be closed while students aged above 12 years to be administered at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine by Jan 31.

The students who are yet to be vaccinated can join classes online after Jan 12 and they'll be allowed to attend classes after receiving the vaccine, she told journalists.

Any student above the age of 12 can go to the vaccination center and get vaccinated to prevent coronavirus infection, said the minister.

"There is no plan to close the educational institutions... Since students are being vaccinated, there will be no problem in this case and the educational activities will continue in the same way," she said.

She made the decision at a meeting, regarding announcement of closure of educational institutions in the wake of the rise in Corona infection, with the National Technical Committee in the conference room of the Ministry of Education on Monday, local media reported.

The minister said that decision has been taken to give the first dose of vaccine to the students between the ages of 12 and 18 by Jan 31.

"There are more than 1 crore 18 lakh 23 thousand students aged between 12 and 18 years. Of them, 4.4 million students had received the first dose of the vaccine.

The minister urged students to take the coronavirus vaccine.
