Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Sunday (Jan 9) said the government wants to keep the education institutions open maintaining health rules amid the ongoing Covid-19 situation.

"The government wants to keep open the education institutions but students, teachers and guardians have to follow the health guidelines properly," she told journalists after attending the ninth convocation of Daffodil International University (DIU) at Dattapara in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital Dhaka, local media reported.

The education minister also said if coronavirus increases again, the government will decide to close the education institutions in the country considering the health security for all.

Degrees were awarded to 12,168 students who passed the bachelor's and master's examinations between Spring 2019 and Summer 2021 at this year's convocation. Among them, 12 graduates were awarded gold medals in the convocation.

Trustee Board Chairman of Daffodil International University Dr Md Sabur Khan, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Lutfor Rahman and Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr S M Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder spoke at the ceremony.
