Actor Enamul Haque laid to rest

Eminent actor, academician and Ekushye Padak recipient Dr Enamul Haque was laid to eternal rest at Banani Graveyard in the city on Tuesday (Oct 12). Before his burial, his last Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Banani Graveyard Jame Masjid.

Earlier, the Ekushey Padak winning actor's body was taken to the Central Shaheed Minar, where people from all walks of life paid their last respects to him from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.

Information and Broadcasting Minister and Bangladesh Awami League joint general secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Awami League cultural affairs secretary Asim Kumar Ukil,MP and the ruling party's women affairs secretary Meher Afroz Chumki, MP were present, among others.

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh and Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Dr Akhtaruzzaman and several cultural personalities such as Shahnaz Khushi, Abul Hayat, Tanzika Amin, Natasha Hayat, Momena Chowdhury, Brindabon Das, Mir Sabbir, Aranya Anwar were also present there to pay their last tributes to Enamul.

Besides, Bangladesh Betar-Television Shilpi Sangstha, Bangladesh Awami League Cultural Affairs Sub-Committee, Bangladesh Awami Jubo League, Shangskritik Shongothon Sampriti Bangladesh, Bangladesh Shishu Academy, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote (BSJ) and Bangladesh Chhatra League paid glowing tributes to him.

Earlier, the first Namaz-e-Janaza of Dr Enamul Haque was held at his home on Bailey Road in Dhaka on Monday. Another Janaza was held on BUET campus, where the eminent academian worked for over four decades. Later, his body was taken to Shilpakala Academy at around 7.30 p.m. where many artists and his longtime colleagues paid their last respects to him.

Enamul Haque passed away at a hospital in Dhaka on Monday at the age of 77.
