Bangladesh on Monday (Aug 16) reported 6,959 Covid-19 cases while the coronavirus claimed overnight 174 lives. The country reported 21.08 percent Covid-19 positive cases as 33,015 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its daily statement.
An analysis of the official data suggests that 2,978 out of 6,959 Covid-19 positive cases were detected in Dhaka city in the past 24 hours while the virus claimed 35 out of 174 lives in the city during the same period.
The official tally showed the virus killed 24,349 people and infected 14,25,861 so far, it added.
The recovery count rose to 13,01,966 after another 9,268 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the past one day.
The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning 91.73 percent recovered, while 1.71 percent died.
The DGHS said among the total 24,349 fatalities, 10,793 deaths occurred in Dhaka division, 4,776 in Chattogram, 1,823 in Rajshahi, 3,222 in Khulna, 821 in Barishal, 973 in Sylhet, 1,220 in Rangpur and 721 in Mymensingh division.
