Bangladesh records 2nd highest single-day Covid-19 deaths

Bangladesh on Thursday (Jul 15) registered 226 Covid-19 deaths in past 24 hours, the second highest single-day toll since the pandemic’s outbreak. The country also posted 12,236 Covid positive cases, the third highest in a day, during the same period.

The nationwide coronavirus death toll reached to 17,278 so far, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its daily statement.

The official tally showed the virus infected 10,71,778 people so far while the daily infection continues to exceed 10,000 mark since Jul 6.

It said 27.23 percent of the 44,941 samples collected in 24 hours were tested positive.

The recovery count rose to 9,05,807 after another 8,395 patients, the highest number in a single day, were discharged from the hospitals during the past one day.

The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 84.51 percent recovered, while 1.61 percent died.

In the past 24 hours, combined figure of coronavirus cases of Dhaka city and upazilas of Dhaka district is 3,732 while as of Thursday, 5,70,147 out of 10,71,778 were detected in Dhaka district including the city.

The DGHS said among the total 17,052 fatalities, 8,383 deaths occurred in Dhaka division, 3,148 in Chattogram, 1,336 in Rajshahi, 2,060 in Khulna, 512 in Barishal, 609 in Sylhet, 812 in Rangpur and 418 in Mymensingh division.
