Bangladesh posts highest single-day Covid-19 death

Bangladesh on Wednesday (Jul 7) recorded 201 novel coronavirus (Covid-19) deaths, the highest number in a single day since the pandemic began while it recorded 11,162 fresh cases during the same period, the second highest in a day.

The country reported 31.32 percent Covid-19 positive cases, the second highest in a single day as 35,639 samples were tested in the past 24 hours while the  highest positivity rate was 31.46 on Jul 6, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its daily statement.

The official tally showed the virus killed 15,593 people and infected 9,77,568  so far, it added.

The recovery count rose to 8,50,502 after another 5,987 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the past one day.

The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning 87.00 percent recovered, while 1.60 percent died.

Both infections and fatalities of coronavirus continued to rise sharply in the past several days while the government has extended the ongoing lockdown till midnight of Jul 14.

Earlier, the government decided to impose a nationwide seven-day lockdown till Jul 7 to contain transmission of the deadly virus.

In the past 24 hours, combined figure of coronavirus of Dhaka city and upazilas of Dhaka district is 3,285 while as of Wednesday, 5,41,411 out of  9,77,568 were detected alone in Dhaka district including the city.

The DGHS said among the total 15,593 fatalities, 7,871 deaths occurred in Dhaka division, 2,878 in Chattogram, 1,170 in Rajshahi, 1,603 in Khulna, 461 in Barishal, 558 in Sylhet, 698 in Rangpur and 354 in Mymensingh division.

As of Jul 7, 2021, 12.26 GMT, 4,011,889 people have died so far from the Covid-19 outbreak and there are 185,503,253 confirmed cases in 212 countries and territories, according to Worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics.
