Schools, colleges may reopen on Jun 13

Primary, secondary and higher secondary level institutions across the country will reopen on Jun 13 if the Covid-19 situation gets favourable, said Education Minister Dipu Moni.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni today said that a decision has been taken to reopen the primary, secondary and higher secondary educational institutions on Jun 13 if the Covid-19 situation gets better. She disclosed this while responding to a question from reporters at a virtual press conference on various issues related to holidays in educational institutions due to the Covid-19 situation, said a release issued on Wednesday.

The minister said that the ongoing vacation of the educational institutions has been extended till Jun 12. The minister, however, said that the decision regarding reopening of universities will be taken later.

She further said that if the educational institutions are opened, the students of SSC exams 2021 and HSC exams 2022 will have to attend classes six days a week. On the other hand, students from sixth grade to ninth grade will have to attend classes one day each week, Dipu Moni said.

Subject to the Covid-19 situation, the number of the class days in a week may increase gradually, she said and urged the students, parents and teachers to abide by the health rules.

State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Zakir Hossain also expressed solidarity with the decision of opening the educational institution at the press conference.

Due to the rising numbers of Covid-19 cases and for the safety of the students, the educational institutions have been closed for more than one year.
