Bangladesh reports 1,028 fresh cases, 38 deaths from Covid-19

Bangladesh recorded 38 more deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). With this new deaths, the total number of deaths now reached 12,348, the release added.

Another 1,028 people were newly infected in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 7,87,726, said the release.

During this period, 12,230 more samples were tested across the country.

At least 759 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period pushing the total number of recoveries to 7,29,798.

The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 92.65 percent recovered, while 1.57 percent died.

Bangladesh recorded the highest number of Covid-19 fatality on Apr 19 this year when the virus killed 112 people in a day.

As of May 22, 2021, 10.12 GMT, 3,459,294 people have died so far from the Covid-19 outbreak and there are currently 166,534,035 confirmed cases in 212 countries and territories, according to Worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics.

China is the world’s first country which on Jan 11, 2020 reported the first death from the novel coronavirus in Wuhan, the capital of Central China’s Hubei province.
