Bangladesh Covid cases spike in 24 hours

Bangladesh today reported 1,608 Covid-19 cases while the coronavirus claimed overnight 37 lives. A total of 37 Covid-19 patients died in the last 24 hours increasing the death toll from the pandemic to 12,248.

Thirty-seven people have died from Covid-19 in 24 hours (till 8 a.m. today), according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The total number of deaths has now reached 12,248 and the death rate stands at 1.56 percent.

At least 1,608 new infections were recorded in the meantime. The number was 1,272 on Tuesday, 698 on Monday (May 17) and 363 on Sunday (May 16).

The total number of people infected to has reached 7,83,737, added the release.

The current positivity rate is 7.83 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 13.62 percent.

A total of 20,528 samples were tested across the country in 24 hours (till 8 a.m. today).

At least 1,923 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period. The total number of recoveries now stands at 7,26,132 and the recovery rate at 92.65 percent.

Among the 37 deceased, 24 were men and 13 were women. Of them, one was between 21-30 years old; three within 31-40; two between 41-50; seven within 51-60; and 24 were above 60 years old, added the release.
