Record-breaking 83 Covid-19 deaths in 24 hours; 7201 infected

Eighty-three people have died from Covid-19 in 24 hours (till 8 a.m. today), according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

This is the highest number of deaths due to Covid-19 recorded in a day. The death number was recorded at 78 yesterday and it was 77 on Saturday.

The total number of deaths has now reached 9,822 and the death rate stands at 1.42 percent.

At least 7,201 new infections were recorded in the meantime, taking the total number of people infected to 6,91,957, added the release.

The current positivity rate is 20.59 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 13.74 percent.

A total of 34,968 samples were tested across the country in 24 hours (till 8 a.m. today).

At least 4,523 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period.

The total number of recoveries now stands at 5,81,113 and the recovery rate at 83.98 percent.

Among the 83 deceased, 54 were men and 29 were women. Of them four were between 31-40 years old, 11 within 41-50, 16 between 51-60 and 52 were above 60 years old, added the release.
