US-Bangla starts operating flights to Chennai, Kolkata

US-Bangla Airlines has started scheduled flights on Dhaka-Chennai-Dhaka, Chattogram-Chennai-Chattogram and Dhaka-Kolkata-Dhaka routes from Wednesday (Oct 28) under the ‘Air Bubble Agreement’ between Bangladesh and India.

The two flights were officially inaugurated at the terminal building of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport before the launch of Dhaka-Chennai and Dhaka-Kolkata routes, said a press release.

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram K Doraiswami was present as the chief guest at the inaugural function.

Chairman of Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman was present as special guest while Capt Sikder Meabahuddin Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of US-Bangla Airlines, presided over the programme.

Under the Air Bubble Agreement, US-Bangla Airlines has started operating flights from Dhaka to Chennai and Kolkata and from Chattogram to Chennai as per the decision of the two countries in compliance with all health regulations during the Covid-19 period.

US-Bangla Airlines flight will leave Dhaka for Kolkata at 9.45 a.m. six days a week except Monday and arrive in Kolkata at 10.15 a.m. local time. Besides, it will leave Kolkata at 11 a.m. local time and arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 12:30 p.m.

US-Bangla flights will leave Dhaka for Chennai at 10:30 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and reach Chennai at 12:40 p.m. local time. It will leave Chennai for Dhaka at 1:30 p.m. on the same day and will arrive in Dhaka at 4:40 p.m.

Besides, US-Bangla Airlines will operate flights from Dhaka to Chennai via Chattogram and from Chennai to Chattogram every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. It will leave Dhaka at 9 a.m. and from Chattogram at 10:30 a.m. for Chennai and leave Chennai at 1:30 p.m. and reach Chittagong at 4:40 p.m. and Dhaka at 6:15 p.m.

The 164-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft will be used. The US-Bangladesh fleet currently has a total of 13 aircraft, including four Boeing 737-800s and six brand new ATR2-600s.

Apart from Chennai and Kolkata, US-Bangla Airlines currently operates flights to Muscat, Doha, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Guangzhou. Besides, domestic routes are operating daily flights from Dhaka to Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Sylhet, Jashore, Saidpur, Rajshahi and Barishal.
