Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam and his wife Dr. Shaila Shagufta Islam have been infected with coronavirus. DNCC mayor’s Assistant Personal Secretary Rishad Morshed has also been infected with Covid-19.
The public relations office of the City Corporation confirmed the news on Monday (Oct 12), local media reported.
The mayor Atiqul and his wife are currently on isolation at their residence in Dhaka and receiving treatment there. The mayor urged countrymen to pray for their swift recovery.
Bangladesh’s Covid-19 caseload stood at 278,266 on Sunday with the detection of 1,193 new cases until morning.
The health authorities also announced 24 more deaths in the last 24 hours, taking total fatalities to 5,524.
