BFF election: Salahuddin to face Badol, Manik

BFF election: Salahuddin to face Badol, Manik

The much-hyped election of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has started to spread heat as incumbent vice president Badol Roy and former footballer and former national football team’s coach Shafiqul Islam Manik collected nomination paper for the post of president for the upcoming Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) election.

As Badol Roy’s was not fully recovered from illness due to Covid-19, His brother collected nomination on behalf of Badol while it was more surprising when Manik suddenly came to BFF Bhaban on Monday (Sep 7) noon and bought the nomination paper.

Both Badol and Manik will now contest against present BFF president Kazi Mohammad Salahuddin, who also collected nomination paper on the last day of the distribution of nomination paper, local media reported.

BFF Bhaban became busy after buying Manik’s nomination paper because having a counterpart in the post of president means the possibility of spreading the heat of the BFF election.

It was a sudden surprise in the BFF election because Manik’s name in the election for the post of president is a long way. Even his name was not heard in the election until he bought the nomination paper.

Tarafdar Ruhul Amin, the renowned businessman, was supposed to be the Kazi Salahuddin’s rival in the BFF election, but he abruptly stepped aside from the post of president of the BFF election. Ruhul Amin’s decision not to contest in the BFF election means there was no obstacle for incumbent Salahuddin to become president of BFF for the fourth time.

The BFF Bhaban was heatless from the beginning of distribution of nomination paper because it seemed the president post was going to be uncontested but heat was spread when Badol and Manik collected the nomination form today.

On the other hand, former renowned footballer Sheikh Mohammad Aslam, who was elected executive committee member last time from a rival panel, will contest against BFF present senior vice president Abdus Salam Murshedy MP, who will contest from the Salahuddin-led panel. On behalf of Aslam, his brother collected a nomination paper today for the post of senior vice president.

Besides, SM Abdullah Al Fuad, Kazi Nabil Ahmed, Amirul Islam Babu, Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan (Manik) and Imrul Hasan collected their nomination paper for the post of vice president.

Earlier, BFF‘s two incumbent vice presidents Mohuuddin Ahmed Mohi and Tabith Awal, and BFF former executive member Sheikh Muhammad Maruf Hasan bought the nomination paper for the same post.

A total of 139 delegates are supposed to cast their voting right to elect a 21-member executive committee – president, senior vice president, four vice presidents and fifteen executive members – for much-hyped Oct 3 polls.
