Sector Commander Abu Osman Chowdhury passes away

Lt Col (retd) Abu Osman Chowdhury, sector commander of sector-8 during the Liberation War of 1971, passed away while undergoing treatment at Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital (CMH) this morning. He was 85, local media reported citing family sources.

Osman was suffering from various old-age ailments for the last few months. He was admitted to the CMH on Aug 30 due to his deteriorating condition and later found positive for the novel coronavirus after testing.

He is survived by two daughters, grandchildren and a host of relatives.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and President Md. Abdul Hamid expressed deep shock and sorrow over the death of Abu Osman.

Abu Osman Chowdhury, the vice-chairman of Sector Commanders’ Forum (SCF), was born in Chandpur’s Faridganj on Jan 1, 1936.
