Bir Uttam CR Dutta no more

Chitta Ranjan Dutta, Bir Uttam, popularly known as CR Dutta, one of the sector commanders of the 'Mukti Bahini' during the Liberation War, passed away today.

Major General (retd) Chitta Ranjan Dutta, Bir Uttam, popularly known as CR Dutta – one of the sector commanders during the great Liberation War – died at a hospital in Florida due to old age complications on Tuesday. He was 93.

The freedom fighter breathed his last around 9:30 a.m., local media reported citing General Secretary of Bangladesh Hindu Bouddha Christian Oikya Parishad Advocate Rana Das Gupta.

He left behind two daughters, a son and a host of relatives and well-wishers.

CR Dutta was a key sector commander of the 'Mukti Bahini' during the Liberation War. After independence, he served as the armed forces commander in Rangpur. He was also the president of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Chitta Ranjan Dutta, Bir Uttam. In a condolence message, Sheikh Hasina said the country and the nation will remember his unique contribution in the great Liberation War with gratitude.

Sheikh Hasina prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.
