Closure of educational institutions extended until Aug 31

The government has extended holiday of educational institutions across the country till Aug 31 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The decision was made in a virtual meeting chaired by Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Wednesday (Jul 29). Officials of Ministry of Education and Ministry of Primary and Mass Education also joined the meeting.

Following the meeting, Md Abul Khayer, public relations officer of the Ministry of Education, confirmed the matter to media.

He said all educational intuitions will remain closed till Aug 31. Previously, the government made announcement to keep educational intuitions closed till Aug 6. The holiday has been extended again as the coronavirus situation of the country has not been improved much yet.

However, many educational institutions are currently conducting classes online and through television broadcast. Some private universities have already started online classes as the UGC on Mar 24 urged teachers to take online classes.

Meanwhile, admission procedures of college students will begin from Aug 9 online.

Bangladesh recorded 35 new coronavirus deaths in 24 hours until Wednesday morning, pushing the official death toll to 3,035.

Besides, the country detected 3,009 new cases after testing 14,127 samples, taking the total number of officially confirmed cases 2,32,194.
