President Hamid’s brother Abul Hye dies of Covid-19

Abdul Hye, younger brother of President Md. Abdul Hamid, passed away from coronavirus (Covid-19) infection at a hospital in Dhaka on Friday (Jul 17). He was 67.

Hye, also the Assistant Personal Secretary to President Hamid, breathed his last around 1:15 a.m. while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), local media reported citing the press wing of Bangabhaban.

Abdul Hye, a freedom fighter, tested positive for Covid-19 on Jul 2 and was taken to the CMH. He survived by his wife, one son and two daughters and a host of relatives and well-wishers.

He will be buried at his family graveyard in Mithamain upazila of Kishoreganj district on Saturday (Jul 18).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Abdul Hye. She prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Finance Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal, Planning Minister M A Mannan, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud have also expressed profound shock and sorrow at his death.

Born in 1953 in Mithamain upazila of Kishoreganj district, Abdul Hye was a commander of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Shangshad, Mithamain.

He was also former Assistant Professor of Muktijoddha Abdul Haque Government College in Mithamain and founding member and teacher of Haji Tayeb Uddin High School.
