Deputy Speaker's wife Anwara Begum no more

Anwara Begum, the wife of Jatiyo Sangsad Deputy Speaker Md. Fazle Rabbi Miah, died of cardiac arrest at a city hospital this morning. She was 67. She breathed her last at 10.40 a.m. today as she was undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Deputy Speaker’s public relation officer Shawpan Kumar Biswas told media.

Anwara Begum was suffering from old age complications for a long time and she was kept on life support at the hospital for last few days, he said.

She is survived by husband, three daughters, grandsons, granddaughters as well as a host of relatives and admirers.

From the hospital, the body will be taken to deputy speaker’s village home in Saghata of Gaibandha district for burial.

President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Anwara Begum.

In separate condolence messages, the President and PM prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.

Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Planning Minister M A Mannan and Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud also mourned her death.

Jatiyo Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Chief Whip Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury, Whips M Atiur Rahman Atik, Panchanan Biswas, Iqbalur Rahim, Mahabub Ara Begum, Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury and Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapon also expressed deep shock and grief at the death of Anwara Begum.
