Bangladesh Covid-19 cases cross 30000, 24 more die

The tally of infections from the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) in Bangladesh today exceeded 30,000 as 1,694 fresh cases were detected over a 24-hour period. The total number of Covid-19 cases has surged to 30,205.

The fatalities from the pandemic have climbed to 432 after 24 new deaths, the highest in a single day, were registered during the period. The recovery count also rose to 6,190 as the highest 588 patients have recovered at the same time. 

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure at its daily online briefing.

Among the deceased, 13 were from Dhaka, nine from Chattogram, one from Barishal and another was from Mymensingh division.

Of them, five were between 21-30 years old, three between 31-40, two between 41-50, five within 51-60, six between 61-70, two within 71-80 and one other was within 81-90 years old, Dr Nasima also said.

225 more people were taken to isolation  across the country in the last 24 hours while 2,560 were home and institutionally quarantined during the same period, she added.

Dr Nasima noted that 17 private hospitals and diagnostic centers have been authorised to conduct RT-PCR test to detect Covid-19 infection. 14 of those are in Dhaka, two in Chattogram and one in Bagura.

626 institutions are ready for institutional quarantine in district and upazila level. 31,840 people can be served immediately through these organisations, Dr Nasima added.

Bangladesh confirmed the first Covid-19 death on Mar 18, ten days after the detection of the first coronavirus cases.
