Bangladesh Cricket Board has donated BDT 5 million (50 lakh) for athletes other than cricketers. Nazmul Hassan, the BCB president, handed over 501 cheques of BDT 10,000 each on Wednesday (May 20) to the State Minister for the Ministry of Youth & Sports, Zahid Ahsan Russell, as part of the BCB’s initiative to support athletes affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

The cheques were distributed to sportsmen and women of 23 sports federations under the National Sports Council other than cricket.

Secretary for the Ministry of Youth and Sports Mohammad Akhtar Hossain and BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury were also present during the cheque handover, local media reported.

Earlier, BCB extended their hand to the cricketers who are not under any contract with the board, whose earnings were blighted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

BCB also planned to help more than 1,500 cricketers before Eid-ul-Fitr with financial aid.

Due to the pandemic, all sporting events are on hold in the country since the mid of March which left many athletes unemployed.
