Banks to remain open next Friday, Saturday

Bangladesh Bank has asked all scheduled banks to keep open the branches concerned in the garments industrial areas on May 22 and 23 (Friday and Saturday) for paying the garments workers' salaries and allowances and purchasing export bills.

The central bank issued a circular in this regard on Tuesday (May 19).

The circular, issued by the Department of Off-site Supervision of the Bangladesh Bank, said banks located near garments industrial areas in Dhaka, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, Narayanganj, and Chattogram will remain open to facilitate the owners to pay officials and workers' salaries and allowances to keep the export trade active before Eid-ul-Fitr.

As the circular, the transaction will be continued from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on May 22 and from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on May 23 maintaining social distancing.
