Bangladesh reports 14 more Covid-19 deaths, 1041 fresh cases

Bangladesh today reported 14 more deaths from the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) and 1,041 fresh positive cases overnight.

14 more Covid-19 patients died in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll from the pandemic to 283, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Additional Director General (Administration) Prof Nasima Sultana told at the daily health buletin of DGHS.

Among the deceased, 11 were male and three female, Dr Nasima said, adding that one of them was between 21-30 years old, one was 31-40, five between 41-50, five within 51-60 and the remaining two within 71-80 years old.

Nine of the deceased were from Dhaka, the DGHS official also revealed.

Dr Nasima said the tally of coronavirus infections has climbed to 18,863 in the same period in the country as 1,041 new Covid-19 cases were detected.

The health official informed that a total of 7,392 samples were tested at 41 authorised laboratories across the country during the period.

She said among the total infections, recovery rate has slightly raised in the country as 19.10 percent patients were cured in the past 24 hours.

Nasima said 18.52 percent patients have recovered till May 13 and the mortality rate from the deadly virus is 1.53 percent.

She said as of May 13, the recovery count rose to 3,361 after 214 patients were discharged from hospitals.

Bangladesh confirmed the first coronavirus death on Mar 18, ten days after the detection of the first Covid-19 cases.
