Bangladesh reports highest Covid-19 deaths and fresh positive cases

Bangladesh saw yet another big jump in coronavirus (Covid-19) cases on Wednesday (May 13) as the health authorities confirmed the detection of 1,162 new patients in the last 24 hours, raising the total cases to 17,822. The deadly virus claimed 19 more lives during the period, taking the death toll in the country to 269. Additional Director General (now, DG In Charge) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Nasima Sultana said this at the daily online bulletin.

Among the deceased, seven were female, and 12 were male, Dr Nasima said adding that one of them was a child, aged under 10. Of the others, one was 31-40 years old, seven between 51 and 60, five between 61 and 70, and the rest within 71-80 years old.

12 of the deceased were from Dhaka city, one from Narayanganj, one from Munshiganj, one from Pabna, one from Narail, two from Chattogram and one from Cumilla, the official revealed.

Meanwhile, 214 Covid-19 patients have recovered around the country in the last 24 hours. The total recovery number stands at 3,361, the top health official said.

In the last 24 hours, 41 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country tested 7,900 samples, she added.

A total of 150 people were put under isolation in the last 24 hours, she added.
