Dhaka-5 lawmaker Habibur Rahman Mollah no more

Member of Parliament from Dhaka-5 constituency and valiant freedom fighter Habibur Rahman Mollah passed away due to old age-complications while undergoing treatment at a city hospital this morning. He was 78.

He breathed his last at around 9.50 a.m, local media reported citing his elder son Mashiur Rahman Mollah.

The lawmaker was admitted to Square Hospital in capital on Apr 27. Later, in the afternoon of the day, Habibur Rahman was taken under life support at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after his physical condition deteriorated.

He is survived by wife, three sons, three daughters and a host of relatives and admirers.

He was a member of the Advisory Council of Dhaka City South unit of Bangladesh Awami League.

Born on Jan 27 in 1942, the Awami League politician hails from Matuail Konapara village under Jatrabari police station in the city.

President Md. Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of the Bangladesh Awami League lawmaker Habibur Rahman Mollah.

In a condolence message, the Prime Minister recalled with profound respect Habibur Rahman Mollah’s contributions to the great Liberation War and politics.

Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
