Bangladesh on Monday (Apr 27) confirmed 497 new cases and reported deaths of seven coronavirus (Covid-19) patients in the last 24 hours. The country has so far recorded 5,913 cases and 152 deaths. Additional Director General (Administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure at daily health bulletin broadcasted from Dhaka.

A total of 3,812 samples were tested across the country since yesterday, which is 9.66 percent more than the previous day, said Dr Nasima.

Meanwhile, nine more people have recovered taking the total recovery number to 131, the DGHS official said hinting that the recovery number is actually higher as they have the tally of only those who recovered through treatment at hospitals.

"Very soon we will gather the information about those who recovered at home," she said.

Of the seven deceased, six were male while five were from Dhaka, one from Sylhet and one from Rajshahi.

Five of them were over 60 years old, one between 40-51, and one a child under 10.

In the last 24 hours, a total of 85 people were put in isolation around the country, Dr Nasima said.

No Covid-19 patients have been detected in four districts so far - Khagrachhari, Rangamati, Satkhira and Natore, she added.
