Seven more people died from coronavirus in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll in the country to 91. Besides, a record number of 312 people tested positive for coronavirus during the period, taking the number of such cases in the country to 2,456. Health Minister Zahid Maleque came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the DGHS.
Seven people died of coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said today. The death toll now stands at 91, the minister said. 312 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. A total of 2,456 people have so far been infected with the virus, he said in the briefing.
Besides, nine people have recovered in last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 75, the minister added.
The health authorities tested 2,634 samples during the period, he added.
The minister warned of community transmission in the country. He noted that people are still keep making gatherings in some places. He criticised a mass gathering in Brahmanbaria held on Saturday. Such gathering is unacceptable and the administration there have failed to control that, he said.
The minister reiterated that Bangladesh is still in a better condition than most of the countries considering the seventh week of infection.
During the briefing, Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration) of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said in the last 24 hours the DGHS collected 2,749 samples and of those, 2,634 were tested.
She also said, 25 people were released from isolation centres in the last 24 hours.
