Bangladesh confirms 9th death from Covid-19; 18 new patients detected

Bangladesh has confirmed 18 new cases of the novel coronavirus, marking the highest number of positive tests in a single day. It took the tally of infections to 88 while the death toll from the virus rose to nine after another patient succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, Health Minister Zahid Malik said in an online media briefing on Sunday (Apr 5). Three others have returned home after recovery in the last 24 hours raising the total of recovered patients to 33.

One more coronavirus (Covid-19) patient has died in the last 24 hours in Bangladesh, taking the total number of deaths to nine, Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said. Eighteen more people have tested positive for coronavirus in the country during this period, he said. With this, the total number of confirmed cases is 88.

Three patients have recovered during this period, the health minister said at the onine media briefing. 

So far, 33 people who were earlier infected with Covid-19 have recovered.

At the media briefing, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) said a total of 46 people are in isolation, of them 32 patinets are undergoing treatment at hospitals and 14 at their homes.

The man (55) who died of coronavirus is from Narayanganj, Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora, Director of IEDCR, said at the briefing.

Of the 18 new patients, three are female, she said adding that, nine persons are aged between 51-60 years, four are aged between 41-50 years, two persons is above 60, she added.

Bangladesh reported its first three cases of the coronavirus on Mar 8. Since then, the number of infections has gradually climbed as the government expanded testing for the virus.
