The government has extended suspension of public transport service until Apr 11 in a bid to contain the spread of coronavirus. Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader made the announcement at a press conference at his Sangsad Bhaban official residence in Dhaka on Saturday (Apr 4), local media reported.
Emergency services, fuel, medicine, vehicles carrying perishable goods and relief materials will remain out of the purview of the restriction.
No goods-laden transport will be allowed to carry passengers.
Earlier, the government had suspended bus, train and launch services until Apr 4.
Bangladesh on Saturday reported two more deaths in the last 24 hours pushing the death toll to 8 and nine new cases of coronavirus, raising the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 70.
