President Hamid reaches London en route to Uruguay

President Md. Abdul Hamid reached London on Wednesday (Feb 26) noon en route to Uruguay on an 11-day visit. A VVIP flight of Emirates Airlines flight carrying the President arrived at Heathrow International Airport around 11.51 a.m. (local time), Ashequn Nabi Chowdhury, press minister of Bangladesh High Commission in London, told media. Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK Saida Muna Tasneem welcomed the President at the airport. Senior officials of Bangladesh Mission in London were present.

After the reception ceremony at the airport, a ceremonial motorcade escorted President Hamid to the place of residence “London Hilton on Parklane” where he would make a six-hour stopover prior to flying for Montevideo of Uruguay.

Besides, the President was received by the representatives of British Bangladeshi community in the United Kingdom at the place of residence there. U.K. Chapter of Bangladesh Awami League President Sultan Mahmud Sharif and General Secretary Syed Sayedur Rahman Faruk, among others, were present.

As part of his 11-day visit to Uruguay, the President will depart London Heathrow International Airport by a Latam Airlines flight.

Bangladesh President is scheduled to attend Uruguay’s Presidential Command Transfer Ceremony at Montevideo on Mar 1.

On his return from Uruguay, Hamid is scheduled to have some private programmes in London on Mar 5-6, foreign ministry officials told media.

The head of the state left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka on Wednesday (Feb 26) by a VVIP flight of Emirates Airlines. President’s spouse Rashida Khanam and secretaries concerned to the Bangabhaban are accompanying Abdul Hamid in the tour.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, Foreign Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Md. Mahbub Ali, Brazilian envoy in Dhaka, cabinet secretary, chiefs of the three services, principal secretary to the Prime Minister, home secretary, inspector general of police, foreign secretary, and high civil and military officials were present at the airport to see the President off.

President Hamid is expected to return home on Mar 7.
