Bird fair 2020 held at JU

The Bird Fair-2020 was held on Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus on Friday (Jan 24) amid festive mood. JU Zoology Department in collaboration with Wildlife Rescue Center (WRC), Bangladesh Bird Club and Aronnyok Foundation organised the fair with a view to raise mass awareness to conserve birds in the environment.

Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof Farzana Islam inaugurated the fair as the chief guest by releasing balloons on the Zahir Raihan auditorium in the morning, local media reported.

Addressing the inaugural session, the VC said, “Birds play an important role in balancing the environment. So we should protect birds as well as other wild animals. We all have to work together for the conservation of birds. I hope that this event will be continued in every year to raise awareness about conserve birds among the people.”

Presided over by Professor of JU Zoology Department Kamrul Hasan, also the convener of the fair organising committee, JU Treasurer Sheikh Md Manzurul Haq, Registrar Rahima Kaneez and ornithologist Dr Enam Al Haque addressed the function as the special guests, among others.

The day-long fair was featured with inter-university bird identification competition, photography exhibition on birds, drawing competition for children, bird watching competition through telescope, annual report presentation on birds and award giving ceremony.

Students of different schools, colleges and universities took part at the events of the fair.

JU Zoology department is organizing this fair since 2002 with a view to raising mass awareness about preserving birds.
