Jessia Islam has been crowned as Miss World Bangladesh 2017, after it was stripped of controversial winner Jannatul Nayeem Avril. Jessia Islam, who was previously selected as runner-up, has been nominated as the new Miss World Bangladesh 2017.
The organizers and judges made the announcement at a press conference held at the Grand Ballroom of The Westin in the capital on Wednesday (Oct 4).
Jessia Islam is now Miss World Bangladesh as Jannatul Nayeem Avril has been dropped in the Miss World Bangladesh for allegedly hiding crucial information before entering the contest.
After Avril was selected as Miss World Bangladesh 2017, a shocking revelation about her being married in the past came to light.
It has been known that she was married but suppressed the information while entering the contest as it was pre-requisite for qualifying in the contest.
She faced extreme criticism for the exposure and later apologized for it.
Avril also said she will return her beauty crown if she is excluded in the Miss World Bangladesh.
The organizer Antar Showbiz and Omicon Entertainment said the judges' decision is final. So instead of Avril, Jessia will represent Bangladesh at the main beauty contest.
Fashion designer Bibi Rassell, one of the contest's six judges, placed the feathered crown on Jessia, the second runner-up, at the end of the media briefing.
She is set to represent Bangladesh at Miss World 2017 in China in November. The first runner-up Jannatul Sumaiya Heme did not attend the ceremony.
The grand finale of Lovello Miss World Bangladesh 2017 was held at the Noborattri Hall of the International Convention City in Bashundhara on Friday (Sep 29).
