Cricket Over Valentine

Cricket Over Valentine

By Rashik Tajwar

As Feb 14 marks the Valentine Day across the globe and people remain busy expressing their love and wishes to their loved ones yet there are certain cricket lovers who still prefer the game over such an auspicious occasion. But there are certainly specific persona who still prefers the game of cricket above anything.

The origins of cricket lie somewhere in the Dark Ages - probably after the Roman Empire, almost certainly before the Normans invaded England, and almost certainly somewhere in Northern Europe. All research concedes that the game derived from a very old, widespread and uncomplicated pastime by which one player served up an object, be it a small piece of wood or a ball, and another hit it with a suitably fashioned club. To many “Cricket as a passion is distinctly contagious!”. In spite of the corruption, controversy, cheating and scandal so prevalent in today's headlines, the game of cricket never ever tend to disappoint us. But sometimes it becomes hard to concentrate on our daily life when our beloved team lose an important game or lose by a small margin. Talking about valentine, it becomes secondary and life becomes absolutely stalemate on that particular moment.

Cricket touches the depths of our emotion. Sometimes when a person is having a bad day but if his/her team wins, then the mood can swing in a positive direction. Cricket engages our mind in such a way that one can totally forget anything happened bad with him/her in the past. A match like last year World Cup final can make you fall in love with the game more easily. But watching Cricket now-a-days is tough for the Bangladeshi fans as they had to go through those crazy nights like Asia Cup Final (2012, 2018), Nidahas Trophy Final, ICC World T20 (against India), which hurts them more than a break-up.

Cricket is the purest form of love. The joy of watching your team do well, the uncertainties it brings and the sheer happiness. Sometimes you lose the unloseables and sometimes you manage to pull off a miracle. The game is such a leveler. On some days, you take a 5-for within a space of few balls. On other days your figures read 111-0. That is how it is. Cricket is another simulation of life. Life, like cricket has a set of rules and the challenge is to do well by using your resources in the most optimal way and be the best version of yourself.

Lastly, the game of cricket has everything a person requires. A valentine might love you or hurt you, but Cricket will never ever disappoint you. It will repay the faiths and love you have shown towards the game.

“LOVE CRICKET, LIVE LIFE, NO NEED OF VALENTINE”.
